Honey, We Enjoyed the Kids {How-To for Family Movie-Going Success}

0

Sharing the silver screen with children can be fun and frustrating. I enjoy seeing movies in theatres and I enjoy sharing those movies with my kids. Try some of these tips as part of your toolbox for a pleasant showing.

Cheap
If you NEED to bail, having spent less money eases the decision to leave. Not to mention, more tickets to buy goes further if the price per ticket is less. Look for Early Bird specials (first showing of the day), Discount Days (discounted rates all day varies by location), and Summer Movie Clubs (free or extremely cheap around a buck/ticket).

Popcorn
We don’t always splurge for popcorn, but when we do, I make sure each kid brings their own bag from home. I like the mini zip reusable bags from AppleCheeks. They zip closed and hold a good amount for each kid to easily hold in their laps.

I buy the large, refillable tub of popcorn and divide into bags before the movie begins, which allows me to refill before the movie begins if needed.

Release Date
New releases are fun, but when trying to avoid a crowd, try seeing a film towards the end of it’s run; so much more empty. Danbarry even offers Last Day Thursdays for $1 a ticket.

Libraries
Several local library systems offer movie events. Just to name a few, Washington Centerville holds monthly Throwback Family Movie Nights and Dayton Metro has Movies @ Main. Check your library schedule for a low-key, free, silver screen experience.

Sensory-Friendly
Some locations offer special showings with lights turned up and the sound turned down. Movement and noise are fair game at these showings. Ask your local theater if they participate.

Taking the family to a movie can be daunting. I find utilizing this list makes the experience easier to enjoy and I hope it helps you, too.
