If “C” Is For Cookie, That’s Good Enough For Me

What do I expect from my child attending school? I want them to be challenged and engaged. I wish for them to be an active learner and love learning. And I hope my child gets at least a “C.”

A “C” can mean my child didn’t get everything right or made a sloppy mistake. A “C” means my child isn’t failing.

This current teacher allows “D” and “F” work to be sent home, reworked and changed to a “C.” It’s happened twice and I have enjoyed the process. Watching my child re-examine their work and discover what was asked of them. What a great gift working alongside my child and showing their potential to improve has been.

I want my child to work but with balance. Giving your all, all of the time isn’t sustainable. What are the greater lessons to be learned? Study habits, checking work, writing their names on all assignments; those are the details I focus on.

With my children all in elementary school, the stakes are still pretty low. The pressure to perform is only going to increase. Keeping the focus on effort and not just achievement will hopefully bear fruit in their futures.

My heart wants my child to love learning, and if “C” is for Cookie, then that’s good enough for me.
