FertilityDo Twins Run in Your Family?

I often get the above question when people see or hear I have twins. I always proudly answer no, they are fertility babies – and many times they answer back, “oh yeah, that is what I was actually wondering!”

Fertility has become more common than it was 20 years ago. This could be due to many factors and we all struggle to understand why this happens. When I found out I had fertility issues, I was scared and didn’t know how to proceed with the magical experience of getting pregnant naturally. I did not want to worry about what may have caused this to happen, but rather find a solution and remain positive.

After over a year of trying for a baby naturally with my time clock running, we went and met with a wonderful Fertility Endocrinologist that diagnosed me with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. I was happy to have an answer, understand why I was only getting 4 periods a year, and hopeful that they would be able to find a way for me to have a baby.

I took the approach of doing whatever needed to be done and doing it correctly and positively. I am a very strong willed person and If I want something, I will work my you know what off to get it.
That is the approach I took with my infertility.
I was going to do everything I could to make it happen. I started reading any book I could find on my diagnosis, joined help groups with the sames issues, read every article on the web of what to eat, and talked to any person I knew had gone through the same treatments.Brown_Twins_One_(68_of_79)

I always knew that the treatment may not take because, there is only around a 20% pregnancy chance each time. As long as I did everything right, I would be okay with the results either way. Treatments definitely take a toll on your body and your emotions. I tried to stay strong and positive throughout the process, though that was not always easy. Those hormones can make you feel like a different person sometimes –
I was crying at the end of reality TV shows for no reason!
We were lucky to have success our first round of IUI treatments and now have a sweet 4 year old son.  We could not imagine not having more children to love and guide so we decided to give it another try. After many failed attempts, IVF finally worked and we had twin boys!!

Our journey has not been easy, but it really has been a true blessing!
