Being Part of the Memories

I sat on the beach and watched the fun. Bouncing waves. Laughs. Smiles as big as the ocean where my family played. “I should go in…”

But the saltwater, ugh. The ocean is too dangerous. His dad does that stuff. The fish. I mean, the fish. Excuse after excuse. On why I shouldn’t participate. Why not to be part of the memories. Why to stay on the shore.

It was halfway into the vacation when I decided to finally take the plunge.

Boogie boarding, body surfing, and being up close and personal to the joy of my kids on that beautiful sea. It was the best part of the trip. Floating as a family in the ocean. Hanging loose.

How often do moms sit on the sidelines? Managing the to-do lists, distracted with the business of life, or just hesitant to be part of it all. It’s time we take pause and just do it.

Jump in. Get wet. Get messy. Go down the slide. Catch the football. Color the picture. Swing. Hop on that trampoline. Run with reckless abandon. Get your face painted with your kids. Hold your hands in the sky at the top of that roller coaster.

Those are the sweet memories your children want their mom to be part of. Show them the happiness in life, and that you’re an important piece to that puzzle.

You have a few good years until your child won’t ask anymore. So be part of it all. Participate! Ride those waves of life and enjoy these precious moments.
