Dear Middle Child,
This letter is for you. That’s right, it’s all yours. You don’t have to share it with anybody! I wanted to write you this letter because there are a few things I want you to know. Now and forever.
I love you, 100%. Just because someone came before you doesn’t mean I love you less. Just because someone came after you doesn’t mean you weren’t enough. I love all of you, with all of my heart!
Be your unique self. This family doesn’t need more of the same kid. Our extended family doesn’t need more of the same cousins. Your teachers don’t need a class of the same kid. Be you. We like you. We love you. And we’d be sad if you weren’t you.
Know yourself. I see you, middle child. I know you. But I can see that sometimes you don’t know yourself. You are beautiful. You are so very smart. You have a heart for others. Find your passion and soar. You will do great things someday.
You have a purpose. You were born right when you were supposed to be. Right in the middle. For a reason. Embrace it and discover that reason.
Sharing is a good thing. I know sharing isn’t always easy or fun. But it is a part of life. As the middle child, your life may be full of hand-me-downs and seconds. Taking turns and waiting in line. But you will grow to appreciate so much more. You will have a heart for sharing with others. You will learn to see the need in others. You will learn how to make anything “yours” with enough creativity.
You see, my dear middle child, you are special and important. You are unique and amazing. And I love you and you are mine, just as you are.
