I love to watch your face light up at the things that bring you joy. The world is your playground, my sweet boy. Your lips begin to purse as your concentration grows. You can do anything you set your mind to, this I know. It seems your gaze goes deeper as you try to figure out how things go. Yet your voice is so confident in the car as you sing your big solo. I can’t help but wonder when I look at you, my darling, what will you do?
Will you be like your dad and have a constant drive to learn? New knowledge excites you, of that, I have no concern. I see the way you focus when you’re studying something new. Am I going to have to wait for hours on end at the museum for you to read every placard, too? Science and history, there is so much to take in. Will you stay close to home or travel places we have never been?
Will you be like me and have a passion to create? Oh the possibilities, I just can’t wait! Your dance moves and made up songs make my artistic heart aspire. Maybe you’ll start a band or write a book one day, whatever you feel inspired. Perhaps you’ll start your own business or stay at home with kids. Wouldn’t it be crazy if you do what I did?
Will you pave your own path and do something new? Explore all your heart desires and find what’s of value to you. You already make me so proud and you’re merely 5. Whatever you decide to do, I know you will thrive. Maybe you’ll see the world from a different point of view. Perhaps you will even teach all of us something new.
The possibilities are endless, darling, but there are two I know to be true. You will be wonderful no matter what you choose to do, and always remember that I love you.
