Bring Back the 80s

0

Allow me to be nostalgic for a minute… I loved the 80s – not the weather, but the decade.

I loved the big hair.

I loved the thick black liquid eyeliner.

I loved my neon leg warmers.

I loved those high-waisted jeans and the ripped knees.

The music, I LOVED the music. Billy Joel. Huey Lewis and the News, Olivia Newton John, The Police, and PAULA ABDUL!!!

I was 9 when the decade began and was influenced by every part of it.

80's

My son’s school hosted a carnival and all of the kids and parents were encouraged to dress in 80s attire. The Friday before the carnival was the day the whole school dressed in 80’s attire. As I drove in the parent drop-off line, I was amazed at the look of all the kiddos – had I suddenly been beamed back to the 80s?

He was the preppiest little guy in his class. I was nostalgic all day as I knew he was “poppin” his collar.

I realized that day how much the 80s were weaved in every part of who I am. When I hop in the car, I turn on the 80s radio station and the memories flood my mind. My favorite pizza place only plays 80s music (any wonder why it is my fave?) and they have awesome pizza, too.

Sleepovers with my friends, MTV, music class in middle school, my first car, my first date, my first (and only) school dance, my high school graduation and many more.

The 80s was my decade to become who I am.

I’m secretly hoping that big hair and liquid black eyeliner will come back “in” so I can look hip again.

Maybe you are a child of the 70s, 80s, 90s or the 2000s? What decade do you want to bring back? What are your best memories from the decade that shaped you?

Hey local mommas! I grew up in Centerville, but I now live in Wilmington with my husband Tony. Together we have 6 kids, Joe, and his wife Allison, Austin, and his wife Hannah, Sydney and her husband Hayden, Andrew and his wife Lauren and our littles, Max and Eli. Did I mention we are a little nuts starting over with this parenting thing when we are 45+? We are officially adding new titles to our names in 2022- Tiki and Jeep (our version of Grandma and Grandpa). My husband and I are both ministers, and we get to work together in a local church. We were both married before and brought our families together in 2010. After a few years of marriage we felt God's leading for us to adopt. We added Max to our family in 2014 and Eli joined us in 2017, our quiver is officially full! Blending our family has been an adventure! Add some ex-spouses and two birth mommas and we have ourselves a crazy crew! Coffee is my love language. The beach is my happy place and I long to have my toes in the sand. I love being part of the team at Dayton Mom Collective.
