When we chose your name, your Dad and I had spent hours and hours making first and middle name combinations, changing and tweaking what we could call you, and what nicknames you may have. We bought book after book to figure out the meaning and see what it would mean for you as our son. We laughed at some of our favorite names and argued a little about who got to make the final decision, and what other people would think about the name. We didn’t find out your gender before you were born and didn’t share the names we had chosen.
When we chose your name, we wanted to honor my family. You were the first grandchild on each side of the family and since you would have your Dad’s last name, we wanted to honor my family and gave you my maiden name as your middle name. This was so special to us, and made your name sound presidential. I knew choosing this name would mean something special to my father.
When we chose your name, we wanted it to mean something. We searched in the baby name books for a name that meant something special and one we liked with our last name. Every baby name book would give several meanings for the same name, but we found one we liked.
When we chose your name, we dreamed for you. We prayed for you and dreamed for you and what your life would hold. We wondered what qualities of each of us you would possess. We laughed and enjoyed thinking of who YOU would be, with the name we chose for you.
When we chose your name, we knew there would be times that we would hear it and that we would be so proud of the name we had chosen and the man you had become.
When we chose your name, we anticipated hearing it, but nothing would prepare us for the emotion and the love we would feel at your milestones. Award ceremonies, high school graduation, college graduation and most recently, your wedding day. As your Dad and I sat at these milestones, we both wept. Overflowing with love, admiration, pride and such an amazing feeling hearing that name.
When we chose your name I had no idea how quickly time would go. It seems like just yesterday we bought the books and started brainstorming if God would bless us with a girl or a boy. It went by in the blink of an eye, and now you are off on your own, married and starting a new adventure, with that special name.
