Pretty soon, the night sky will be filled with fireworks, hot dogs will be roasting on the grill, and everyone will be sporting their red, white, and blue attire to show their July 4th pride. It’s always fun to gather around with those you love to celebrate such a patriotic holiday. Make sure you include the kiddos in your festivities, too, by adding some crafts and activities that they are sure to enjoy as well.

Below you’ll find some entertainment that will put a smile on their cute little faces.

Festive Popcorn

We all need a fun, yet festive dessert to celebrate the holiday. Popcorn is the perfect snack to munch on throughout your celebrations especially when it includes chocolate, right? Grab a bag of popcorn and mix in some good ole M&M’s, but only the red and blue ones. It’s like finding a little surprise in every bite. Plus your kids can definitely help make this delectable snack.

Flower Pull

This is such an enjoyable activity that is sure to keep your kiddos busy. Almost everyone has a strainer in their cabinet and you’ll need that, but not for draining food this time. I used faux red, white, and blue flowers that I already had on hand from my local craft store. Spaghetti, straws, and string are other materials you can use if you do not have flowers, though. Stick the material through the holes and instruct the kids to pull it out of the spot and place it back if they desire. That’s it! It’s like a simple game of tug of war. This is also great for practicing those fine motor skills.

DIY Fireworks

What’s 4th of July without fireworks, right? Well I have two crafts that are sure to bring in the kaboom and excitement. For the first one you’ll need a toilet paper roll, red and blue paint, a sheet of paper (preferably white), a container for the paint, and scissors.

Now what you’ll need to cut slits around the toilet paper roll. Bend the slits so they stretch outward. Pour the paint into a container. Dip the slits into the paint. Finally begin stamping the toilet paper roll onto the sheet of paper.

Before you know it you’ll have fireworks bursting throughout the sky (aka your sheet of paper) that you created using a toilet paper roll. How cool!

For this next craft you’ll need a sheet of paper, cupcake paper liners (red, white, and blue or just white ones that you can paint red and blue, red and blue paint if you only have white cupcake liners, glitter, glue, and scissors. Similar to the toilet paper craft above, cut slits into the cupcake liners. The cupcake liners will represent the fireworks, and the slits make it seem like they are exploding. Glue the cupcake liners face up onto the sheet of paper and paint them accordingly if you desire. Then add a sprinkle of glitter to for some razzle-dazzle.

There you have it, friends, a festive snack and three crafts that are sure to get you in the holiday spirit. Happy July 4th, everyone!
