Ode to the TV Dads

It’s nearing the 3rd Sunday in June
Time to celebrate all of the dads – and soon!

Let’s start with the best TV dads just for fun;
We’ve compiled our favorites, each and every one.

We’ll go to picturesque Mayberry first of all,
Where Sheriff Andy Taylor is laying down the law.

Our next stop is in Bel-Air, which is quite posh you know.
Uncle Phil is the one in charge of running the show.

Head to Dillon, Texas under the Friday night lights,
And we’ll meet Eric Taylor who teaches his footballers wrong from right.

San Francisco is home to one full house.
With the ultra clean Danny T, there won’t be any crumbs for a stray mouse.

Families certainly come in all forms now-a-days.
Phil Dunphey is a modern dad with magical ways.

Mr. Feeny roams the halls of John Adams High,
Never giving up on Cory and the gang no matter what stunts they try.

Randall Pearson learned how to be a father from one of the best;
He treats the ladies of his house like queens, meeting their every request.

Adam Braverman makes parenthood look like a  breeze.
He is a champion for his son Max and does it with ease.

Tim Taylor is known as the tool man up in the Mitten State,
And as a father to three boisterous boys, he’s pretty great.

Luke Danes serves the best coffee in Stars Hollow, the quaint.
He’s been there for Rory over the years like a surrogate.

We’re not done in CT until we visit the esteemed Richard Gilmore.
He dotes on his granddaughter and without his girls, life would be a bore.

Zack Morris may think he rules the roost at Bayside,
But without Mr. Belding, the school would most definitely fall by the wayside.

Lonely Henry becomes a dad by chance.
Colorful Punky Brewster lights up his world at first glance.

As a dad of the ’80s, Jason Sever helps his family through their growing pains.
Over Mike, Carol, and Ben he reigns.

Ray Barone is a dad who always keeps it real;
Meddling moms, bitter brothers, and clueless dads are part of the deal.

You won’t find a man more gentle or kind than Charles Ingalls –AKA – Pa.
He fawns over his daughters and beautiful wife – AKA – Ma.

Let’s end our tour at the estate of Downton Abbey in the era of the aristocrats.
Robert Crawley always forgives his daughter, regardless of their spats.

If we happened to miss your pick, there’s no reason for woe.
Simply add your own line to the comments below.

TV dads are an entertaining and wonderful bunch.
But nothing can compare to the real dads in our lives – that’s just my hunch.

Be sure to honor and celebrate the special men in your crew.
Happy Father’s Day from DMB to all of you!

Mallory Skidmore
Hello! My name is Mallory, and I am a Troy native. I now live in Beavercreek with my husband, our daughter, Greer (May 2016) and son, Smith (Feb. 2019). The first few years of parenthood have taught me that I still have so much to learn! I’m trying to figure it out with a little bit of humor and a lot of humility. I believe that we are our best selves when we are on vacation, that life should be more like a Hallmark movie, that local restaurants are far superior to chains, that birthdays should be week long celebrations, and that you can never have too many library cards.
