October Dayton Dozen guide to Family Friendly Events

It’s Fall, Ya’ll. October comes with all the usual festivities, but Dayton has so much more to offer! Add these local experiences to your calendar; some of them even reoccurring.

1.) Ohio Renaissance Festival @ Waynesville Ohio

***DMB Tip*** Get your tickets online and skip the line. Also, bring cash for parking!

  • Weekends Sept 1st – October 28th
  • 10:30am – 6:00pm

Forget your cares and step back in time to this 30-acre re-created 16th Century English village and enjoy over 400 years of fun in a single day! The festival offers something for everyone featuring nearly 100 shows daily on 14 stages, over 150 unique arts and crafts shops, hearty food and drink, games of skill and human-powered rides to amuse all ages.

2.) Fire Safety Fun @ Washington-Centerville Public Library

***DMB Tip*** Use this event as an excuse to begin the conversation about fire safety with your family in your own home.

  • October 1st
  • 6:30pm – 7:30pm
  • For Preschool-Grade 5
  • Woodbourne library community room

Kick off National Fire Prevention Month by learning basic fire safety skills from Scott Henry, a Washington Township firefighter. See the gear firefighters wear to fight a fire, meet Sparky the Fire Prevention mascot, and a fire truck!

3.) Craft Thyme: A Partnership between Fresh Thyme & the Greene County Library

***DMB Tip*** Mark your calendar for Story Thyme as well at this same location on October 3rd at 11am.

This atypical location is a unique Library experience with an event for Craft Thyme Tuesday.

4.) Cinépolis Dayton @ Austin Landing is showcasing their ‘handpicked’ programming series

***DMB Tip*** Take note of the ratings! Not all of these will suitable for children, but you know your kids best!

  • October 2nd – Rosemary’s Baby – 50th Anniversary
  • October 9th – Ghostbusters
  • October 16th – Frankenstein
  • October 23rd – Young Frankenstein

Going to the movies is an event. And October is full of these special movie nights. Share the experience with your family or have an excuse for a date night. See theatres website for times and ticket information.

5.) Family Storytime @ Washington-Centerville Public Library

***DMB Tip*** Registration is typically required at storytimes, but not for this Fall session.

  • For ages 18 – 36 months

  • Free

Get ready to move around with this active storytime that incorporates rhymes, stories, songs, and dancing.

6. ) Suburbicon Comic Creator Expo @Kettering

***DMB Tip*** Take note of the ratings! Not all of these will suitable for children, but you know your kids best!

Take a trip over to the Trent Arena Lobby for SuburbiCon hosted by Kettering! This is Kettering’s only comic creator expo featuring over 20 local and talented comic creators! Free art activities will be available for the kids, too!

7.) Deeds Carillon Concert

***DMB Tip*** Go early and make a day of it. The grounds at Carillon are perfect for picnicking!

Join us for a free, family-friendly concert located at Deeds Carillon performed by Dr. Larry Weinstein.

8.) Disney on Ice @ The Nutter Center

***DMB Tip*** Let your littles dress up in costume. It makes it that much more magical!

10.) Yellow Springs Street Fair

***DMB Tip*** Bring cash if you can to save credit card fees for artisans.

The semi-annual Yellow Springs Street Fair is a family favorite!

11.) Science Saturdays: Movie Magic

***DMB Tip*** Downtown parking is FREE on Saturdays!

ThinkTV is excited to partner with Science Saturdays for a new way that kids can connect with super cool science experiences, live stage shows, and online content!

12.) Spook-tacular Hair Raising Science

***DMB Tip*** National Chemistry Week is October 21-27 with the theme, Chemistry is Out of this World and this event is a great option to supplement homeschool curriculum.

Local science personality, Mister C will be at Main Elementary School in Xenia for a Spook-tacular Hair Raising Science show. Mister C puts on a fantastic, captivating show; educational and entertaining. He says it isn’t magic; it’s science!
